Marian L. Nelson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Marian L. Nelson, 95 of St.Ignace passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, June 18 at her home . She was born January 5,1918 in the home she died to Frederick and Rebecca (Stirling) Johnson. She graduated from LaSalle High School and received 2 years special advanced education. She retired February 29,1980 after 40 years of service with the Department of Social Services in Mackinac County. On January 4,1944 she married John G, Nelson in Missouri, and he died November 27,2003. She was a devoted member of Glen Memorial Baptist Church, and helped with childrens programs and AWANA. She volunteered to drive DHS people many years, and she and her husband were recognized for their services. She was a member of Order of Eastern Stars Chapter in St.Ignace; and was a n honorary grandmother and great grandmother to many. She was lo ved by all who knew her and will be sorely missed. She had spent two and a half years with her daughter because of failing health. She was very determined to return to St.Ignace for her last days. She is survived by her daughter and son in law; Rebecca and Rev. Tom Barber of Newcomerstown, Ohio; brother in law, and sister in law ,Robert and Rose Nelson, St.Ignace; grandson, Matthew and Grace Barber, Grove City, PA; granddaughter, Jennifer and Matthew Russo, Lake in the Hills, Ill; great grandchildren, Garrett, twins Aaron and Nathan, Caleb and Reed. She was preceeded in death besides her husband her siblings, Maude Cheeseman, Winifred Johns, Beulah Parker; Jean Mcuen; Bill, Vern, Glen and George; she was the last of 9. Services will be Friday, June 21 at 11 am at Glen Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Lane officiating, Burial will be in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens next to her husband. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at Dodson Funeral Home and Friday from 10 to service time. Memorials may be directed to Glen Memorial Baptist Church or Hospice of the Straits with envelopes available from Dodson Funeral Home who assisted with arrangements.
